Art Zemon

Customer Service Agent & Web Site Builder

You will be the main person helping our hosting customers understand and use their accounts. You will get to solve problems ranging from "How do I log in?" to "How do I install three SSL certificates on a single Linux server?" Though you will be on the front line, you won't be alone; you can always turn to the other folks at Hen's Teeth Network and even to our suppliers for backup support.

You will build and update web sites, jockeying HTML and CSS with the best of 'em. If you know JavaScript, that's great but we have programmers on staff who can handle the programming for you. Many of the web sites you build and maintain will be "dynamic" based systems such as WordPress and PDG Commerce.

You will have an intimate understanding of e-commerce and will be able to set up stores and train our customers in how to run them. This includes setting up the payment methods (payment processing gateways, PayPal, etc.), the shipping (such as real time quotes from UPS, FedEx and USPS), and sales tax rules. You will also guide store-owners through everything from getting reasonably sized images and thumbnails for their products, through the complexities of setting up discounting and free offers, etc., etc., etc.

You will be responsible for key parts of our customers' businesses, like assuring that domain names are properly registered and renewed. You will have god-like powers across all of our servers and you will have the integrity to use your power wisely. ("Do no evil" is not good enough.) You will carry a cell phone which receives after-hours tech support calls (as do the rest of us) but you will work hard to ensure that customers don't need to call us after hours.

Compensation

We are a midwest-based company and all of us work from our homes. Our salary range reflects that reality. We don't care where you live but you should know up-front that we do not pay the kinds of salaries that you can earn by working in a shiny office building in LA or Chicago or Boston. In lieu of cash, you get to give up commuting and have us pay for your health insurance, computer and software.

How to Apply

Interested? We'd love to hear from you. Here are the non-negotiable requirements for applying.

  • You must be legally eligible to work permanently in the United States. We do not discriminate in any way so race, religion, personal preferences, physical ability, etc. don't matter. Sorry, we cannot help you obtain or retain a work visa.
  • English must be your primary language or, to be more precise, you must speak and write English so well that a native English speaker is comfortable communicating with you.
  • You must be available for an all-staff telephone meeting at 8:30am central time, every day, Monday through Friday. If you live west of the central timezone or you are a late riser, think carefully about this one.
  • You must have at least two years full-time professional employment experience which includes a lot of time working directly with customers. Sorry, no fresh college grads.
  • You must email your info to Art Zemon. Include your resume, pointers to some web sites you have built or worked on, your phone number(s), and the best time(s) to call you.

If you fail to meet any of those requirements, you will not get the job.

Thank you for the unseen work you do. I am so satisfied with the site.
